Brookfield Asset Management has announced a major investment of approximately $9.9 billion (95 billion Swedish crowns) to build a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) data center in Strangnas, Sweden. This project supports Europe's growing AI infrastructure and aligns with Sweden's national goal to become a leading AI hub.

The new data center will expand its capacity from 300 MW to 750 MW, making it one of the largest AI infrastructure projects in Europe. It is expected to create over 1,000 permanent jobs along with around 2,000 construction jobs over the next decade.

Sikander Rashid, Head of Europe at Brookfield, highlighted the importance of such investments:
"To compete in AI development and unlock its economic potential, large-scale investment in the underlying infrastructure is crucial."

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson welcomed the investment, emphasizing its significance for his hometown of Strangnas. The location's proximity to Stockholm and several major university towns adds strategic value to the project.

This initiative follows Brookfield's 20 billion euro commitment to AI infrastructure in France, including a 10 billion euro investment in the country's first AI factory, showcasing the company's dedication to advancing AI technology across Europe.

"Investing in cutting-edge AI infrastructure is essential to unlocking the full potential of artificial intelligence and driving the next wave of innovation and economic growth."
